Adobe Audition software is a professional audio editing environment. Audition is Adobe's first foray into the audio-only editing realm. To get a jumpstart, they purchased an existing application (Cool Edit Pro), badged it Adobe, and released it as Audition 1.0. Cool Edit Pro was always a good application, so there aren't any problems with the software itself, although those expecting the standard clean Adobe interface might be a little surprised. Undoubtedly this will be fixed as Audition matures.
