Loads of books have been published on the art and science of capturing moving images over the years, but most have focussed either on film or video as the acquisition medium. In today's world, it is common for a range of mediums to be used at different stages of making a film and one of the best things about this book is the fact that Brown consciously avoids the murky film verses digital video debate in favour of concentrating on methods of capturing great moving images, both from a technical and artistic point of view.
Fledgling DPs are the obvious target audience for this book, however this book is an excellent resource for directors who want to learn more about using cinematography to help tell their stories. Brown's writing is technical enough to cover all the bases, but still accessible for audiences who aren't interested in being at the cutting edge of image acquisition.
