Current and graduating students have received regional and national awards in 2005 with several students also working on the recently released Anthony Hopkins film "World's Fastest Indian" and receiving recognition in the film's credits. In addition to camera and editing equipment, school also has a 60 suite Mac lab and 30 suite multimedia lab. Also, close industry liaison with cable TV network SKY Channel 90 with over 50% of Channel 90 airtime being provided by the Southern Institute of Technology.

Actually operates on a ZERO FEE SCHEME for NZ residents! We have some good tutors here now namely Patrick Winters (Try a search on www.IMDB.com) and Karen Love. The scholl is really only starting and should grow better in the coming years. We have some good gear but only in DV we have 3 pro DV cams, 5-6 handicams 4 lighting kits, 2 pro DATs greenscreen, great mikes. The biggest down is probably the relatively uncultured town of Invercargill, but I'm so busy with making films and music videos, writing scripts and media culture assignments that I don't notice. The town is close to some very beautiful places though... We have a local short film festival, The Spirit of Southland Onscreen Awards, about October I think.
