By Barbara Klausz  |  10-Jan-2013

If you fancy spending spring and beyond studying filmmaking in Hungary, then you'll be excited to learn that the Budapest Film Academy has announced a set of scholarships covering full and part tuition. The scholarships are open to students from all countries.

Here's the press release:

Budapest Film Academy invites submissions for its scholarship competition. We offer a few places in the Spring semester at our Academy for the most talented applicants.

Budapest Film Academy (BFA) and Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) have joined forces and launched an English and Hungarian language film academy in Budapest offering practical film studies to students who would like to become industry professionals.

The academy’s faculty is made up of leading figures and award winners from across the film industry. The classes are held at the centrally located ELTE-BTK campus, the practical training takes place at various professional Hungarian filmmaking facilities.

Our courses are also available to young filmmakers who are not currently attending an institution of higher education.

The Budapest Film Academy courses are accepted towards the undergraduate and graduate film program of Eötvös Loránd University, and for those who would like to transfer their credits, ELTE issues an ECTS credit transfer certificate.

The 2013 Spring scholarship applicants can choose from five practical filmmaking courses:

  • directing
  • screenwriting
  • editing and sound recording
  • cinematography
  • producing and line-producing

As part of the competition you’ll have to send us one of your previous works that showcases your talent. The submitted material will depend on the course you are applying for:

Screenwriting: a pitch of a feature length film in maximum one page, or a character oriented scene which can’t be longer than six minutes. It has to describe your character well.

Directing: a film directed by the applicant. It can’t be longer than 15 minutes and it has to be uploaded on YouTube or Vimeo.

Editing and Sound recording: a film edited or sound engineered by the applicant. It can’t be longer than 15 minutes and it has to be uploaded on YouTube or Vimeo.

Cinematography - a film in which the applicant was the cinematographer. It can’t be longer than 15 minutes and it has to be uploaded on YouTube or Vimeo.

Producing – Line-producing - a film produced or line produced by the applicant. It can’t be longer than 15 minutes and it has to be uploaded on YouTube or Vimeo. Another way of applying is a description of a project that the applicant wants to accomplish in the future. For this, we also need a financial and a producing plan.

We offer three kinds of scholarships:
  • 100% tuition free scholarship
  • 75% discount from the tuition fee
  • 50% discount from the tuition fee
